7 Maine Airports Sharing About $2M in Federal Grants

  • PORTLAND, MAINE – Seven Maine airports are sharing more than $2 million in federal grants to enhance safety and improve facilities.

    The Federal Aviation Administration grants were announced Tuesday in a joint statement by Maine U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King.

    The largest chunk, or $1.2 million, is going to Bangor International Airport to fund the replacement of a portion of the floors, ceiling, electrical and heating/ventilation systems in the terminal.

    Biddeford Municipal Airport is getting almost $200,000 to fund an environmental assessment related to removing runway obstructions.

    Belfast Municipal Airport will receive more than $175,000 to fund an environmental assessment related to future runway construction.

    Brunswick Executive Airport; Northern Maine Regional Airport in Presque Isle; Wiscasset Airport; and Houlton International Airport are also sharing in the grants.
