  • The Mason City Chapter 94 of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) is holding its annual EAA YOUNG EAGLES RALLY on Saturday, June 20th at the Mason City Airport from 9am to noon.  Arriving at 8:30 for registration is recommended. The camp is open to youth ages 8 to 17.  A parent or legal guardian must sign a release form at the event for their child to receive a free airplane ride.  Most Young Eagle flights will last 15-20 minutes.

The camp includes free airplane rides, a ground school class and free pizza.  Attendees will be able to enter their name in the world’s largest logbook and get a personalized Spirit of Flight Certificate.  In recent years well over 100 kids participated.

The ground school will be held rain or shine, however the airplane rides may need to be rescheduled if the weather conditions are unfavorable.

The Experimental Aircraft Association is an international membership organization encouraging and supporting recreational aviation.  Experimental refers to the category of aircraft built by craftsman rather than in a factory.  Experimental aircraft are inspected and certified airworthy by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The EAA Young Eagles program was organized in 1992 to give interested young people an opportunity to go flying in a general aviation airplane.  More than 1.3 million “Young Eagles” have enjoyed a flight through the program flown by over 41,000 volunteer pilots.
