Seminar to Focus on Weather Hazards Faced by Pilots, Others

  • A seminar aimed at teaching pilots and others about weather-related aviation hazards is scheduled for Jan. 23.

    Sponsored by EagleMed, the National Weather Service office in Wichita and the Kansas Army National Guard, the seminar on “Convective Weather Effects” will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    The event will be at the Heartland Preparedness Center, 2808 N. New York St., according to information provided by EagleMed.

    The tentative agenda includes sessions led by personnel from the Federal Aviation Administration, National Weather Service and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. EagleMed officials will present information on the impact of weather on airplane and helicopter operations and the use of night vision goggles.

    Other session topics include turbulence and microbursts, fog and thunderstorm climatology and tower operations during inclement weather.
