  • ELKO — A couple of Elko Regional Airport projects are on the agenda for Tuesday’s Elko City Council meeting.

During the meeting, the council may award a five-year aviation planning services contract at the Elko Regional Airport to Jviation Inc.

The Federal Aviation Administration wants the airport to update its master plan in 2015, Airport Director Mark Gibbs said. If the contract is approved, Jviation will put together the master plan.

The airport is also revamping its webpage, and asking for the public’s input on the airport and ways to improve air service in Elko.

“This is a major opportunity,” Gibbs said. “… The public gets to have a voice.”

Also at the meeting, the council may accept a $10,000 Nevada Commission on Tourism marketing grant on behalf of the airport.

The grant money will be used to advertise the airport and all of Elko in Utah, Gibbs said. This is the first time the airport has received such a grant.

As a part of the advertising, the airport will hire a professional to write an article about Elko for SkyWest Magazine, a publication available to passengers on Delta flights.

“That will be a great opportunity to get Elko in front of many, many people worldwide,” Gibbs said. ” … We’ll be putting our little small town on the map.”

At the meeting, council may also:

•Approve the Elko Police Department to enter into a memorandum of understanding agreement with the Elko County School District and the Elko County Sheriff’s Office for the school resource officer program.
