  • Fire/rescue crews responded to a 2:33 p.m. alarm Saturday (Jan 3) to Honl’s Beach Park in Kona for an ocean rescue.

A 22-year-old man from Dover, Massachusetts was swimming at Honl’s Beach Park when currents pulled him about 200 yards off-shore. Two surfers paddled out to the man with surfboards to assist. A fire department personnel swam out to the trio and stayed with them until everyone was airlifted to shore by Chopper two.

The rescued men did not require any medical treatment.
