  • A hiker fell down a cliff near the Monticello Dam on Sunday afternoon and required a helicopter rescue, according to the California Highway Patrol. At 3:30 p.m., a CHP helicopter crew responded to reports of a 20-year-old man stranded on the southeast corner of Lake Berryessa in Solano County, the agency said in a news release. The air crew found the hiker 200 feet below the top of a cliff and 50 feet from its bottom, the highway patrol reported.

As the pilot kept the helicopter in a hovering position, a paramedic was lowered below the cliff to place the victim in a lift collar and hoist him on board, according to the CHP report.

The crew then flew to a nearby landing zone, where an ambulance took the hiker to a hospital with what the CHP described as non-life-threatening injuries.
