  • MILTON – A medical helicopter made an unusual landing in the Milton Academy campus after doctors at Milton Hospital decided a patient could not wait for an ambulance to take the patient to a Boston hospital.

Robert McCrystal, a spokesman for the hospital, said doctors decided to call in the helicopter after considering the patient’s condition. The helicopter landed in the middle of a running track off Brook Road shortly before 9 a.m. to transport the patient to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, which is affiliated with Milton Hospital.

McCrystal said the landing was “very unusual” for Milton Hospital, which typically uses ambulances when moving patients to hospitals in Boston. Milton Hospital does not have its own helicopter landing pad.
