  • PLEASANT GROVE, Utah — Search and rescue crews plucked a stranded paraglider off a mountainside with a helicopter after he crashed and broke his ankle about 35 miles south of Salt Lake City.

Utah County Sheriff’s Sgt. Rhett Williams says the 33-year-old man called for help on his cellphone after he crashed about 5 p.m. Wednesday just above Pleasant Grove High School in the Battle Creek area.

Williams told The (Provo) Daily Herald (http://tinyurl.com/nq22274) crews worked through rough terrain to reach him after finding his exact location by pinging his phone.

Authorities brought in a medical helicopter and a nurse was dropped down to the site near the Bonneville Shoreline trail about 6,000 feet up. They hoisted him into the helicopter and brought him to the trailhead where he was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
