  • Through the mechanical engineering technology program at Ivy Tech Community College — Columbus, I had an opportunity to serve as an administrative intern at the Columbus Municipal Airport. I have marveled at how things work, and I have been especially fascinated with airplanes.

This unique learning assignment allowed me to become more familiar with airplane technology and the operations of Columbus Municipal Airport. This position also gave me the opportunity to learn more about the impact the airport is making on the community. The airport houses several companies, which makes a big economic impact on the entire community.

About 90 percent of my internship experience was working directly with Airport Director Brian Payne. I learned essential real-world job skills that I could not have learned in class. This internship gave me the chance to improve my public communication competency and enhance my interpersonal workplace skills. I had the opportunity to attend meetings with the airport director, which helped me learn how to conduct effective meetings. This is a skill I will use in my career in the near future.
