GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) – For five years, Chris Mauser has worked as a flight instructor for Genesis Flight Academy. The school uses the Georgetown airport to train students.
“Enhancements to the airport in any level,” said Chris Mauser of Genesis Flight Academy, “translates and trickles down to having a safer environment to us fly in and to teach flying.”
About $8 million of improvements to the Georgetown Municipal airport will begin this summer. Better lighting, new signs, taxiway improvements and new fuel tanks will all help the airport meet current Federal Aviation Administration codes.
“We take up the slack, we provide services, we prvide an angle that Austin Bergstrom can’t,” added Mauser. “We don’t have the commercial traffic…we have flight schools that maybe don’t have to charge as much because it really come down to the cost of running the business.”
Dana Padula, who lives next to the airport, hopes the upgrades will provide a better sense of security for pilots and nearby residents.
“Because we are so close to the airport, we want to make sure that they can see the runway if they’re coming in in the evenings.”
“(The improvements are) exciting, but I think much needed,” said Mauser. “Every industry needs to maintain that level of improvements in order to maintain that safety.”
