  • The City of Naples Airport Authority is recruiting volunteers who live in the area southwest of Naples Municipal Airport to apply for a position on the Noise Compatibility Committee. Applicants should live in Aqualane Shores, Brookside, Old Naples, Port Royal, Royal Harbor, Windstar or neighboring areas and be willing to serve for three years, attending at least three meetings a year.

Applications are available online at www.FlyNaples.com, under Noise Abatement/Noise Committee/Volunteer Application, and must be submitted by Feb. 20 to Deputy Executive Director Sheila Dugan. The Naples Airport Authority Board of Commissioners, which appoints committee members, will interview candidates during their March 20 meeting at city hall.

The committee helps monitor the impact of aircraft noise and makes recommendations about noise-mitigation procedures for consideration by the Board of Commissioners. The nine committee members serve as volunteer representatives of the Collier County Commission, Naples City Council, general aviation pilots and six geographic areas surrounding the airport.

The committee includes Chair Richard Mellon, Vice Chair Edith Scott “Scottie” Yeager, City Councilman William Barnett, William E. Cox, Bob Erbstein, Bill Goddard, William Hummel and Bob Tweedie, who represents the Collier County Commission.

The committee developed and oversees the “Please Fly Safe Fly Quiet” program to encourage compliance with noise-abatement measures at the airport.
