  • PRESIDIO COUNTY – A total $495,000 for the Marfa and Presidio municipal airports was approved by the Texas Transportation Commission at its December meeting.

The Marfa airport will receive $425,000 while Presidio Lely Airport gets $70,000.

The funds will be used at the Marfa airport for planned improvements, which includes engineering/design for pavement and new runway lighting.

Engineering/design for pavement and hangar improvements will be funded at the Presidio airport.

Presidio County officials, including county airports manager Chase Snodgrass, worked diligently on the funding project, along with the city of Presidio and the Presidio Municipal Development District.

Project consultants will be selected this winter, and project costs will be funded through Presidio County and TxDoT’s Aviation Facilities Grant Program, which preserves and improves the state’s general aviation system.

This year, TxDoT expects to provide about $60 million in funding for planning, constructing and maintaining community airports. About 275 community airports in Texas are eligible for funding. Arrivals and departures from community airports account for more than three million flight hours per year and provide aircraft facilities for agricultural, medical, business and commuter use.
