  • Galaxy Aviation will take over operations at Palm Beach County’s general aviation airport at Lantana Road and Congress Avenue.
Palm Beach County commissioners on Tuesday agreed to lease Palm Beach County Park Airport – known as the Lantana Airport — to the fixed-based operator for the next 30 years.
Under the proposal, Galaxy has agreed to spend $5.5 million to improve the airport. The improvements include the construction of a new aviation fuel facility, aircraft wash rack, terminal building and aircraft hangers.
The airport has been operated by Florida Airmotive, founded in 1941 by Owen Gassaway Jr. When he died in 2007, his son assumed responsibility for maintaining the small terminal, leasing hangars and selling fuel.
With a main terminal that resembles a farmhouse, the airport has long been known for its small-town charm. But it also has been in need of improvements and better security, according to the county.
