  • A new airport has opened in Texas: Liberty Hill Air Ranch (XS12), located just northwest of Austin.

The airport began as a flight training facility back in the mid-1980s, according to officials with the Texas Aviation Association.

In 2012, private funding launched Liberty Hill Ranch, a new airport in a gated community. It has a 10,000-square-foot insulated hangar with leases starting at $250 a month. There is a new concrete taxiway and ramp leading to the newly paved 3,160-foot runway with a new lighting system. It is a gated community with a game fence surrounding the perimeter.

There are 30 dedicated live night vision cameras in and around the hangars with Internet access so pilots can view the area and their planes on their computers from anywhere in the world. Also, a weather site gives up-to-date information of local conditions.
