  • The crush of race fans leaving Austin set another record Monday, airport officials said.

Austin-Bergstrom International Airport moved 22,759 departing passengers through security in the main terminal Monday, a total that includes people taking commercial airliners but also larger charter flights. It does not include pilots and passengers who might have left Monday on private planes and smaller charters using the general aviation facilities on the south side of the airport.

Airport spokesman Jason Zielinski said that on a typical Monday this time of year the airport has 12,000 to 14,000 departing passengers.

Monday’s figure bests what had been the previous high, the 21,725 departures on Nov. 18, 2012, the Monday after last year’s inaugural Formula One race.
