Commissioners Approve Airport Construction Contract

  • The Tucumcari City Commission approved a grant agreement and the first construction contract for construction of an airport perimeter road and markings on the airport’s runway on Sept. 11.

    Grant funds from the Federal Aviation Administration will provide $295,953 of the project’s $328,836 total cost, according to grant documents presented to the commission, according to grant documents. The rest will be paid for by donations of $16,442 each from city funds and the New Mexico Dept. of Transportation.

    The commission also approved a contract with Blue Collar Construction Co. of Socorro to build the perimeter road. The contract is for $174,535.

    Other components of the project include:
    ∙ Construction on runway markings: $33,446
    ∙ Road engineering, $56,747
    ∙ Markings engineering, $9,661
    ∙ Road inspection, $45,738
    ∙ Road testing, $7,500

    Construction on these projects is set to begin this month, according to E.J. Molinas, project coordinator for the airport project.
