The Coast Guard and a good Samaritan rescued two people from Lake Michigan after they had jumped off their vessel on Sunday.
The names and hometowns of the rescued people are not being released.
At about 1 p.m., a watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Lake Michigan, located in Milwaukee, overheard a VHF-FM transmission from a vessel stating that he had come across an unmanned 18-foot boat with its trolling motor engaged and fishing poles with lines in the water.
Sector Lake Michigan issued a urgent marine information broadcast asking mariners to keep a sharp lookout, report any sightings and assist if able.
An aircrew from Coast Guard Air Facility Waukegan, Ill., was directed to launch aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, and Coast Guard Station Kenosha, Wisc., diverted a boatcrew that was already underway aboard a 25-foot Response Boat-Small.
A good Samaritan, who had responded to the broadcast, located and rescued an adult male, who revealed that his wife was also in the water.
The rescue helicopter located the woman and directed the boat crew to the area. The woman was rescued from the water.
Both people were reported to be in good condition and both were wearing lifejackets.
The two people and their vessel were taken to North Point Marina, where the man and woman were evaluated by emergency medical services.
It was reported that the man and woman had simultaneously jumped overboard to cool off, not realizing that the trolling motor was engaged.
The Coast Guard encourages mariners to invest in a personal electronic position indicating radio beacon.
