  • WACO (June 17, 2013)–Piloting aircraft is not just for men anymore and three student pilots will prove it Tuesday during the Air Race Classic, an event open only to ladies.

TSTC Waco’s Aircraft Pilot Training Technology students will pilot their Cessna 172 aircraft across the U.S. from Pasco, Washington to Fayetteville, Arkansas in hopes of being the first to cross the finish line.

Team members are pilot Cara Martinez, co-pilot Rosalyn Montgomery and teammate Alyssa Cockrell.

Racers will undergo safety briefings, flight planning and fly-by study prior to take off.
47 teams will be competing and only females are allowed to participate.

The race dates back to 1929, an era when women pilots were not allowed to race against men.
TSTC offers a variety aviation courses for men and women, including aircraft dispatch, air traffic control, aviation maintenance and more.
