  • PLEASANTON, Calif. – IronPlanet®, the online marketplace for buying and selling used heavy equipment, today announced it has entered into an alliance with the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) for the creation of a marketplace for aircraft.

“For the past 13 years, our innovative technology has made equipment buying and selling more efficient for the construction industry,” said Greg Owens, CEO, IronPlanet. “Now, we’re excited to bring our expertise to support the needs of AOPA and its members within the aviation community.”

Since pioneering online equipment auctions over a decade ago, IronPlanet now has built an audience of nearly 1 million members, and has successfully sold over $3 billion of used equipment online to buyers representing nearly every country on the planet.

“This alliance joins two organizations with impressive histories,” said Craig Fuller, AOPA’s president and CEO. “With technology that is unparalleled in helping equipment buyers and sellers match supply and demand around the globe, IronPlanet is clearly an industry leader that could help AOPA provide a trusted and active online marketplace for our members.”
Initially, the IronPlanet–AOPA alliance will conduct a limited online sales trial of aircraft owned by AOPA members. AOPA will use these trial results to shape and assess the venture going forward.
