The report by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation summarizes the “significant economic benefit that Massachusetts derives each year from its public-use airports.”
The MassDOT Aeronautics Division and Federal Aviation Administration have released their annual Airport Economic Impact Study which examines the 39 public-use airports in Massachusetts – including the Norwood Memorial Airport.
The study reports that the Norwood Airport’s total economic activity has an output of $51,394,000.
According to the study overview:
The analysis presented in this study considers the annual economic impacts accrued in 2010 associated with airport business operations, onairport construction, military aviation, visitors who arrive via commercial airlines, and visitors who arrive on privately-owned general aviation aircraft. These impacts are reported for each airport in terms of employment, payroll, and total economic activity.
The Norwood Airport employs about 380 people, and total payroll equals just over $15.6 million, the report states.
The statewide economic activity of public-use airports is equal to about $11.9 billion.
