Flying editor-in-chief Robert Goyer has received the National Business Aviation Association’s 2012 David W. Ewald Platinum Wing Award for lifetime achievement in aviation journalism.
As many of you know, Goyer has been with Flying since 1994, serving as the magazine’s editor-in-chief since 2010. During his time at Flying, he was written and photographed hundreds of feature stories on a wide variety of aviation-related topics. In presenting the award, NBAA noted that his monthly columns and weekly blogs are among the most popular and influential in aviation.
A commercial land and seaplane pilot with multiengine and instrument ratings and thousands of hours in his logbook, Goyer has flown hundreds of types of homebuilt, ultralight and general aviation aircraft including dozens of turbine-powered aircraft. Goyer regularly flies his Cirrus SR22 and is type rated in the Cessna CJ.
NBAA presented Goyer with the Platinum Wing Award – its highest honor for journalism – at its annual convention in Orlando, Florida, on Oct. 30. The association also gave the Gold Wing Award to Matt Thurber for his article, “Saving Lives, One Flight at a Time,” in Business Jet Traveler.
