    ROANOKE, VA —
The Roanoke Regional Airport is using a pair of studies as its road map to better serve the community in the future.

One study commissioned by the Virginia Department of Aviation found the airport’s economic impact to the area at approximately a quarter of a billion dollars annually.

Another study, done by the airport, found that about nine out of ten people surveyed were generally satisfied with the airport’s location, parking, signage and information.

“We wanted to know what is the perception of the airport within the region,” explained Sherry Wallace, with the Roanoke Regional Airport.

“We spoke with business leaders; we spoke with people at shopping centers; we did on-line surveys; we reached out to the entire service area,” Wallace said.

Wallace said the airport is just underway with several renovations, including the terminal.

She said folks should start seeing the bulk of the work take place beginning in November.

Wallace said most of the work will cease during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays in order not to interfere with travel.
