  • CRYSTAL SPRINGS, Miss. — The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded $1.8 million to Copiah County Airport for construction of airport runway.

U.S. Rep. Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., says the county had already received $2.1 million for the project.

He says the construction of a new runway will meet all Federal Aviation Administration design standards and will improve safety at the airport.

Officials say the existing runway has non-standard longitudinal grades and runway safety areas. Copiah County Airport is a general aviation airport in Crystal Springs.
