Westchester County, N.Y.-based business aviation charity Corporate Angel Network (CAN) logged a milestone last month when it transported its 40,000th cancer patient to treatment. The organization, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in December, provides patients with access to specialized treatment that would not otherwise be available. CAN’s staff and volunteers arrange free air transportation for cancer patients traveling to recognized cancer treatment centers throughout the U.S. by using the empty seats on corporate aircraft that are already flying to those destinations. The milestone flight carried a woman diagnosed with Stage IV breast cancer from her home in North Carolina to meet with a specialist at New York’s Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. The charity lists more than 500 corporate flight departments among its flight providers.
