The Helena Regional Airport is getting ready to celebrate it’s 200,000th passenger of the year.

Despite airline travel reportedly being down in other parts of the country, passengers are boarding steadily in Helena.

Airport director Ron Mercer says the number this year is record-breaking for both inbound and outbound passengers, and despite the soft economy, the Helena airport is doing extremely well.

As for passenger number 200,000, Mercer noted, “That should happen probably this coming Saturday. It’s a big deal to us to break 100,000 enplanements and 100,000 arrivals, so we’re excited about it.”

Mercer says when they identify the special traveler they plan to have a small celebration.

He says on average, passenger count has been between 92,000 to 98,000 travelers per year, and he attributes the modest increase this year to good fares and good airline service.
