    The Florida Energy and Climate

Commission (FECC) has awarded a $500,000 grant to the Lee County Port Authority

toward the cost for installation of a solar photovoltaic system at Page Field.

    This grant came from federal

economic stimulus funds for the State Energy Program by the U.S. Department of

Energy. The FECC allocated funds to be used for energy efficiency and renewable

energy projects. The Lee County Port Authority applied for this grant and

received the maximum amount of $500,000.

The grant has been used toward

the installation of a 160Kw solar photovoltaic system on the hangar roof of the

new Page Field Terminal Complex. The system will supply solar power to the

terminal building and is estimated to result in a 25 percent energy cost

    savings.

    “Airports rely on grant

dollars to provide needed infrastructure and improvements,” said Robert

Ball, A.A.E., executive director of the Lee County Port Authority. “LCPA

worked diligently with FECC staff to secure this funding that will permit us to

offset future energy costs at Page Field with an environmentally conscious

    project.”
