The House Science, Space and Technology Committee last week approved legislation to cut funding for aviation-related research to fiscal year 2008 levels. Lawmakers are expected to add the research provisions to the House version of the FAA reauthorization bill.

The measure also would authorize funds for the Airport Cooperative Research Program, including funding for research related to capacity, safety and the environment. However, unlike previous aviation research bills, the bill does not identify specific dollars amounts for the Airport Cooperative Research Program or any other research program. Under the committee’s plan, FAA would determine the proper funding levels.
